Lime for your lawn

     Is lime something that you need on your lawn?  Before deciding, there are some factors you should consider.  First, have your soil tested.  You can have this done by a lawn care company.  You may learn that your soil is not acidic.  If it is not acidic, not only will the lime not do any good to the soil, but it can actually harm it.

     Lime is a treatment for your soil, and not for your grass.  This means that the best time to put lime down is when there is not grass on top of the soil.  If you are beginning a new lawn, you should test your soil and then add lime before you plant your soil.  Once you have a lawn, however, you should add lime in the spring or fall.  Try to avoid hot days, because lime can burn your grass.

     Too many chemicals at once can damage your lawn.  You need to wait at least a week before applying more than one treatment, such as fertilizer, herbicide, or lime.  If you do not wait, then the result may be that your lawn is completely damaged.
